Nature is an essential component of life in the Faroe Islands. The weather also plays a huge role in the daily life of the Faroese people and Faroese artist Össur Mohr is no exception. The marks of the wind, the rain and the sun have shaped the islands and its people, leaving its mark on both Mohr as a person as well as on his art. His most frequent subject is the view from his studio, characterized by a blue, green and yellow landscape. “I’ve always painted the view from my office, I can’t help it. The landscape that can be seen from there is imprinted in my head and my heart, and it is my passion. The nature you can see from there is amazing and it can change in such a short time, just with the sun between brief chapters of rain. Even though I paint the same subject again and again, it’s never the same.” Through his work, Mohr seeks to recreate the moments where the light and the skies are changing, which in the Faroe Islands can happen very quickly.
Össur Mohr now lives and work in Denmark. He has been featured all over Europe, including in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Belgium and the Netherlands.
This will be his second exhibition at Gallerí Fold.
Birgit Kirke is a Faroese artist who mostly deals in the abstract. Kirke is born in Nuuk, Greenland and is currently living in Denmark, but her childhood was spent in the Faroe Islands. According to Kirke, these tiny islands are the perfect place to see how big and powerful the elements can be. Her work is characterized by lively, light and decisive strokes, which reflects the landscape in the Faroe Islands; rough cliffs and large rocks that rise up to the heavens out of the depths of the sea. The canvas is marked by opposites, vibrant colors and liquid shapes that burst out in the form of lava, fire and ice.
The Faroese landscape gives Kirke an infinite source of inspiration to create her powerful work.
Over the years Kirke has participated in numerous exhibitions in Cultural Centers, Art Museums, Art Fairs and Galleries in the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, Denmark, Sweden and Spain.
This is Kirke’s third exhibition at Gallerí Fold.
Attention is drawn to the fact that Birgit Kirke will be on site to chat with guests.
The group exhibition will be on display from 15. - 29th of September.
Looking forward to see you all!
